‘Father Brown’ update: Season 11 has started filming!
Production has commenced on the next season of Father Brown.
As in previous years, despite the show’s huge ongoing success, there’s never any official confirmation of a renewal until after filming has already begun, so this will be a relief to fans.
Based on the stories by GK Chesterton, Father Brown has been a daytime hit on BBC One for a whole decade now and is shown in over 232 territories around the world.
A tenth season premiered in the UK in January, averaging 2.3 million viewers and becoming the biggest daytime drama of the year so far.
BBC Studios officially announced yesterday that the eleventh season of Father Brown has started shooting in the Cotswolds.
“Father Brown continues to bring in a dedicated audience on BBC daytime and iPlayer as well as legions of fans across the world,” said Rob Unsworth, Head of Daytime and Early Peak at the BBC.
He added: “We’re thrilled to be bringing more of his adventures to screen in the eleventh series.”
Mark Williams is, of course, returning as the titular crime-busting priest.
The Harry Potter star commented: “It’s an honour to be returning to Father Brown for an eleventh series of warmth, drama and humour, as well as sleuthing with my partners in crime solving. It’s also always a treat to film in the beautiful Cotswolds.”
The BBC’s press release doesn’t confirm any other returning main cast members, although actor John Burton has revealed on Twitter that he’ll be back as Sargent Daniel Goodfellow.
“So the cat is well and truly out of the bag,” Burton tweeted. “Father Brown 11 started filming today!! To answer all the hundreds and hundreds of questions from the last 6 months – Yes, of course I’m back.”

We’ll have to wait and see if Ruby-May Martinwood and Claudie Blakley will be reprising their roles as last season‘s new regulars Brenda Palmer and Mrs. Isobel Devine.
And, fingers crossed, we’ll also see the return of Sorcha Cusack and Emer Kenny as Mrs. McCarthy and Bunty at some point!
