Watch trailers for Olivia Colman’s new ‘Great Expectations’ series

Two brand new trailers have dropped for the BBC’s upcoming Great Expectations adaptation.

From the makers of Taboo and 2019’s A Christmas Carol, the six-part period drama sees Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight adapt Charles Dickens’ thirteenth novel.

Olivia Colman (The Crown) leads a great cast as the iconic Miss Havisham, with Dunkirk actor Fionn Whitehead playing Pip.

The release date for the mini-series in the UK and the US was recently confirmed for later this month.

Following the previous teaser clip, we’ve now got our best look yet at what to expect with this atmospheric two-minute preview from FX:

Fans on YouTube were full of praise for Olivia Colman, with one saying: “Olivia seems to be perfect as Havisham.”

“Olivia Colman’s voice is so enchanting yet full of horror,” said one commenter, while another wrote: “I will watch anything with Olivia Colman, this looks amazing!”

The BBC has also shared this shorter trailer last week:

Alongside Olivia Colman and Fionn Whitehead, the cast also includes Ashley Thomas (The Ipcress File), Johnny Harris (Medici), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist), Hayley Squires (Call the Midwife), Owen McDonnell (Killing Eve), Trystan Gravelle (Quiz), Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows), Laurie Ogden (The Colour Room), and Rudi Dharmalingam (The Split).

Great Expectations premieres in the UK on BBC One and streaming on BBC iPlayer at 9pm on Sunday 26th March.

For American viewers, it’ll launch on Hulu on the same day in the US.

The official synopsis reads: “Great Expectations is the coming-of-age story of Pip (Fionn Whitehead), an orphan who yearns for a greater lot in life until a twist of fate introduces him to the mysterious and eccentric Miss Havisham (Colman) and Estella (Shalom Brune-Franklin), showing him a dark world of possibilities.

“Under the great expectations placed upon him, Pip will have to work out the cost of this new world and whether it will truly make him the man he wishes to be.”
