‘Last Night in Soho’ trailer: Matt Smith and Anya Taylor-Joy star in ’60s thriller

The first teaser has been unveiled for the long-awaited new movie from Edgar Wright.

The English filmmaker is best known for directing Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Spaced, and Baby Driver.

His new film Last Night in Soho is a psychological thriller set in 1960s London.

Wright has said the movie is influenced by horror classics like Nicolas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now and Roman Polanski’s Repulsion.

The cast features a host of familiar faces from period dramas, including Anya Taylor-Joy from The Queen’s Gambit, Matt Smith from The Crown, and the late Dame Diana Rigg from Victoria.

They will be joined by Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), Terence Stamp (Valkyrie), Rita Tushingham (Doctor Zhivago), Michael Ajao, and Synnøve Karlsen (Medici).

Last Night in Soho tells the story of a young girl, passionate in fashion design, who is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer.

But 1960s London is not what it appears, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences…

Director and writer Edgar Wright previously teased: “I realised I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years. With Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead you make movies about places you’ve lived in. This movie is about the London I’ve existed in.”

Last Night in Soho will be released in cinemas on Friday 8th October.

The movie was originally set for release in autumn 2020, but the release was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last Night in Soho is available on DVD on Amazon.
