Well, we didn’t see this one coming!
Downton Abbey star Lily James has revealed her latest role and it’s quite a surprise.
The 31-year-old English actress, best known as Lady Rose in the latter years of Downton, will play former Baywatch icon Pamela Anderson in a new TV show.
Hulu’s upcoming eight-part mini-series will profile a scandal that shook the industry on the topic of celebrity privacy; when Anderson and husband Tommy Lee’s sex tape from their honeymoon was stolen and leaked to the public in the mid-’90s.
Deadline reports: “While the scandalous event will play a major part in the series, the story will have a big focus on their relationship going back to their whirlwind romance that started with them marrying after only knowing each other for 96 hours in 1995.
“The leaked VHS tape turned into quite the legal dispute, with Anderson suing the video distribution company Internet Entertainment Group. Ultimately, the Lees entered into a confidential settlement deal with IEG.
“Thereafter, the company began making the tape available to subscribers to its websites again, resulting in triple the normal traffic.”
Titled Pam & Tommy, the series begins filming this spring.
Sebastian Stan (Avengers Endgame) will play Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, and Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) is playing the man who stole the tape.
There are also rumours that Lily James will be returning as Rose in the second Downton movie, which starts production this summer.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see the very talented star able to show her acting range in a rare role that’s not a British period drama.
Pam & Tommy is expected to premiere on Hulu in the US later this year.
