‘Manhunt’ preview: First look at ‘Outlander’ star’s new historical drama
Apple TV+ has revealed the first pictures from its new mini-series about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln!
Manhunt comes from award-winning Fargo writer and producer Monica Beletsky.
The historical true crime drama is led by English actor Tobias Menzies, best known for his roles in Outlander , Game of Thrones, and The Crown.
First announced back in January 2022, the seven-part limited series is based on James Swanson’s best-selling book, Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer.
“Part historical fiction, part conspiracy thriller,” the drama explores one of the best known but least understood crimes in history, the astonishing story of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of American president Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
Tobias Menzies is playing Edwin Stanton, Lincoln’s war secretary and friend, who was almost driven to madness by his need to track down John Wilkes Booth and to fulfil Lincoln’s legacy.
Alongside Menzies, the cast also includes Anthony Boyle (Tetris), Lovie Simone (Greenleaf), Will Harrison (Daisy Jones & The Six), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Damian O’Hare (Hatfields & McCoys), Glenn Morshower (The Resident), Patton Oswalt (A.P. Bio), Matt Walsh (Veep) and Hamish Linklater (The Big Short).
When’s the release date?
The first two episodes of Manhunt will debut on Apple TV+ around the world on Friday 15 March 2024.
New episodes will then drop weekly every Friday through until the end of April.
It was revealed earlier this year that Outlander will be ending with its eighth season.
Before then, the historical-fantasy-romance series – which starred Tobias Menzies as Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall in its early years – returns in 2024 with Season 7’s second part.
James Swanson’s book Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer is available on Amazon.
