‘Miss Scarlet and The Duke’ future confirmed: Will there be a second season?

It’s been revealed if there will be another season of Miss Scarlet and The Duke

Created by Grantchester writer Rachael New, the period crime drama launched in the UK last year.

The series stars English actress Kate Phillips (Wolf HallThe Crown) as Eliza Scarlet, the first ever female detective in 1800s London.

Miss Scarlet and The Duke premiered in the US in January on PBS.

It sounds like it’s been a hit with American audiences on Sunday nights on Masterpiece, as they’ve just officially confirmed Season 2!

8 million viewers watched the first season, and it was streamed 3.6 million times.

Season 2 begins filming later this year.

Phillips will return as the fearless Miss Scarlet, alongside Stuart Martin (Jamestown) as her childhood friend and potential love interest, Inspector William “The Duke” Wellington.

Executive producer Susanne Simpson commented: “Miss Scarlet and The Duke was an instant fan favorite. Our audience couldn’t resist its lighthearted tone and the appealing characters so wonderfully portrayed by Kate Phillips and Stuart Martin.”

She added: “We’re delighted the show will return for a second season.”

Watch the cast explain what the show is about:

The show’s official synopsis reads: “When [Eliza Scarlet’s] father dies, he leaves her penniless in a time where marriage is her only option for financial security. But the headstrong Eliza is determined to find another way and tales over his private detective agency.

“To operate in this man’s world, she needs a partner, Detective Inspector William Wellington of Scotland Yard, who is also known as The Duke, a drinker, gambler and womanizer. Eliza and Duke strike up a mismatched, fiery relationship and team up to solve crime in 1880s London.”

Season 2 will premiere in the US on PBS Masterpiece in 2022.

A sixth season of Grantchester started filming in England last year and it’ll air on PBS this summer.
