New on BritBox in the US: What’s added in July 2020?
Lots of great new British television shows are coming to BritBox in July!
The subscription streaming service from BBC Studios and ITV offers viewers in the US and Canada the biggest collection of streaming British television.

Father Brown – Season 8 (available weekly from 1st July 2020)
Everyone’s favorite priest returns to solve more mysteries in the sleepy Cotswold village of Kembleford. A mysterious saboteur tries to stop the Kembleford Choristers from winning the Three Counties Choir competition.
Suspicion immediately falls on the rival choir, the Hambleston Harmonisers. The Kembleford Choristers race against time to get to the competition before they are disqualified, all while Father Brown works to discover who is out to get them.
The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher (available from 3rd July 2020)
BAFTA Winner Paddy Considine (Bourne Ultimatum, Peaky Blinders) stars in the title role of the British film series written by Helen Edmunson (An Inspector Calls) and Neil McKay (Isolation Stories).
The Murder at Road Hill House
Set in 1860, this gripping true story of murder, psychological suspense and courtroom drama is based on Kate Summerscale’s best-selling factual novel.
The Murder on Angel Lane
The real-life detective is back with a new case at hand, and this time, he’s up against the most powerful and wealthy figures.

An Inspector Calls (available from 7th July 2020)
Emotionally powerful and sharply relevant, this is a stylish new adaptation of JB Priestley’s timeless masterpiece directed by Aisling Walsh (Wallander).
An Inspector Calls is both an enthralling mystery and a scathing critique of a hypocritical social inequality. Taking place over the course of a single night, this taut, affecting and ultimately tragic story centers on the prosperous Birling family.
Doctor Blake Mysteries – Seasons 1-3 (available from 10th July 2020)
Dr Lucien Blake left Ballarat as a young man. But now he finds himself returning, to take over not only his dead father’s medical practice, but also his on-call role as the town’s police surgeon.
Taggart – Seasons 12-27 (available from 14th July 2020)
The longest running Crime TV series in the world comes to and is famous for its dark, realistic and gritty storylines. The series revolves around a group of detectives, initially in the Maryhill CID of Strathclyde Police, though various storylines were set and shot in other parts of Greater Glasgow and in other areas of Scotland. DCI (Detective Chief Inspector) Jim Taggart, played by Mark McManus (until his death in 1995) is the procedural’s main protagonist. Taggart and his team operate out of the fictional John Street police station and investigate gruesome murders against the bleak backdrop of the city of Glasgow.
Rebus – Season 1 (available from 17th July 2020)
Based in Edinburgh, Detective Inspector Rebus is tough and street-savvy with a great sense of humor and a taste for romance. Although battling with problems in his personal life, Rebus tackles crimes that lead to the revelations of his mysterious past, fighting weaknesses as well as dealing with the consequences of human frailty. From small-time criminals to haunted cases from the past, Rebus’s investigations lead him through the city’s ancient beauty and into its more sinister quarters.
Miss Marple Remastered (available from 21st July 2020)
The elderly spinster has never looked so cool in this remastered version! Joan Hickson (Great Expectations) stars and continues her reign as the grande dame of the genre and Agatha Christie’s personal pick for the much-beloved sleuth, Miss Marple.
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd – Radio Version (available from 21st July 2020)
When the Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot retires to the country to grow vegetable marrows, he soon discovers that someone has planted the seeds of treachery… and of murder.
Orson Welles adapted the novel as a one-hour radio play for the 12 November 1939 episode of The Campbell Playhouse (a live CBS radio drama series in the late 30s). Welles played both Dr Sheppard and Hercule Poirot. The rare play was written by Herman J. Mankiewicz (Citizen Kane), produced by Welles and John Houseman, and directed by Welles, marking the first Agatha Christie adaptation for an American audience.
Evil Under The Sun (available from 21st July 2020)
Trying to find how a millionaire wound up with a phony diamond brings Hercule Poirot (Sir Peter Ustinov) to an exclusive island resort frequented by the rich and famous.
When a murder is committed, everyone has an alibi. Two time Oscar winner Dame Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey) stars as Jane Castle.
The Mirror Crack’d (available from 21st July 2020)
Miss Jane Marple played by Dame Angela Lansbury (Murder She Wrote), comes to solve the mystery when a local woman is poisoned and a visiting movie star seems to have been the intended victim.
The cast also includes Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson.
Unfinished Portrait: The Life of Agatha Christie (available from 21st July 2020)
The first bio-film of the World’s Best Sellinng author, according the the Guiness Book of World Records, and the creator of Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot unravels the mysterious life of Agatha Christie and her shared obsession with murder. BAFTA Nominee Joan Hickson narrates.
Agatha Christie’s Poirot (available from 21st July 2020)
BAFTA Nominee David Suchet (Press, Doctor Who) shines in his signature role as Agatha Christie’s Belgian detective Hercule Poirot – the super sleuth who, with an expertly twirled mustache and a theatrical flair, solves murders with penetrating perception and no small amount of self-regard.
Set in a beautiful stately home in the war-torn England of 1917, Hercule Poirot was introduced in Agatha Christie’s first published book.
Death In Paradise (available from 24th July 2020)
The sun, the sand, and the most impossible murders are all packed in this lighthearted whodunit series set on the beautiful Caribbean island of Saint Marie. Red Dwarf: The Promised Land (available from 26th July 2020)

River (available from 31st July 2020)
Award winner Stellan Skarsgard (Chernobyl, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) stars as John River, the brilliant police officer whose genius and faultline is the fragility of his mind.
A drift in a London full of other exiled souls, River’s own isolation helps him connect with the troubled victims who crash into his world, and to see the truth in ways his colleagues are drawn to admire and question, in equal measure.
