Helena Bonham Carter’s ‘Nolly’ confirms PBS Masterpiece release date

PBS has revealed Nolly will air in the US!

ITV’s acclaimed three-part drama from A Very English Scandal and It’s a Sin writer Russell T Davies was a hit in the UK earlier this year.

A “sharp, affectionate and heart-breaking portrait of a forgotten icon,” Nolly tells the forgotten story of iconic British soap opera actress Noele Gordon.

Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech) leads the cast as the titular Crossroads star, joined by Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) as legendary entertainer Larry Grayson.

Set in the early 1980s, Nolly explores “the all-powerful reign, and fall from grace, of the inimitable Noele Gordon, TV legend and Queen of the Midlands, the darling of the establishment until it turned on her and betrayed her.”

The Telegraph called the mini-series “fabulous, glamorous, joyous fun” in its 5-star review when the show premiered on ITVX in February, while The Independent wrote that “Helena Bonham Carter is on sensational form.”

When’s the US release date?

It’s been officially confirmed that Nolly will premiere in the US at 9/8c on Sunday 17 March 2024 on Masterpiece on PBS.

The official synopsis reads: “Noele (or Nolly to her friends) was a legend in her own lifetime. As flame-haired widow Meg Richardson in the long-running soap opera Crossroads, she was one of the most famous people in Britain.

“Then in 1981, at the height of the show’s success and the peak of Nolly’s fame, she was axed without ceremony, without warning and with no explanation.

“With the boss’s words “all good things must come to an end” ringing in her ears, Noele Gordon found herself thrown out of the show that was her life for over 18 years.”
