Paramount shares trailer and preview images of Ridley Scott’s new Gladiator sequel

It has taken twenty-four years but there is finally a sequel to Ridley Scott’s epic historical drama Gladiator! 

Paramount has shared a preview trailer of the long-awaited sequel Gladiator II and it looks as though it was worth the wait. 

What is it about?

Gladiator II is set twenty years after the events of the first film. According to the official synopsis, Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome.”  

Paul Mescal (Normal People) plays Lucius, the son of Commodus’ sister Lucilla. Lucius is now a grown man and is living a calm life with his wife and child in the North African region of Numidia. His life changes when his home is conquered and he becomes enslaved.  Inspired by his late hero Maximus, he becomes a gladiator and comes up against Pedro Pascal’s ruthless General Acacius and the leaders who are ruling Rome with an iron fist.

Who else is in it?

Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi will return as Lucilla and Gracchus. New additions to the cast include Pedro Pascal as General Acacius, Joseph Quinn as Emperor Geta, Denzel Washington as Macrinus, and Fred Hechinger as Emperor Caracalla.

When will it reach cinemas?

Gladiator 2 has a new release date of November 15 in the UK – having been brought forward from its originally-planned November 22 release date. It is current set to be released one week later in the USA.
