Emerald Fennell to adapt ‘Wuthering Heights’ as her next feature film
Academy Award-winner Emerald Fennell has hinted on X (Twitter) that her next feature film will be an adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic gothic romance, Wuthering Heights.
She posted a piece of artwork by Katie Buckley on her X account with the tagline:
“Be With Me Always. Take Any Form. Drive Me Mad.”

Deadline reported that Fennell is set to work with the studio MRC again but details of casting are not yet confirmed.
Who is Emerald Fennell?
Emerald Fennell (Saltburn) is an accomplished actor, writer and director, best known on the small screen for playing midwife Patsy Mount in Call The Midwife and Camilla Parker-Bowles in The Crown. She was commissioned as head writer for the second series of Killing Eve and has written and directed two feature films, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2021 for her debut film Promising Young Woman.
Wuthering Heights was first published in 1847 under the pen name Ellis Bell. It is widely considered to be a masterpiece that continues to captivate readers close to 180 years after its publication. It tells the story of the tortured romance between Heathcliff and Cathy Earnshaw and its destructive impact on their families who are members of the landed gentry in Yorkshire. It’s a tragic tale of love, obsession and revenge.
The novel has been adapted numerous times for cinema and television, with the best-known film versions starring Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon as Heathcliff and Cathy in 1939 and one with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche in 1992.
