‘Persuasion’ first look: Netflix reveals trailer for new Jane Austen movie
Netflix has released a trailer for its upcoming Persuasion film.
The movie is a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s final completed novel, which was published six months after Austen died in 1817.
American actress Dakota Johnson (The Lost Daughter) is leading the cast as Anne Elliot.
The Fifty Shades star is joined by British-Malaysian actor Henry Golding, who shot to fame in 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians, as Mr Elliot.
The cast also includes Cosmo Jarvis (Lady Macbeth) as Captain Frederick Wentworth, alongside Richard E. Grant (Withnail & I), Suki Waterhouse (The White Princess), Mia McKenna-Bruce (Get Even), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Luther), and Ben Bailey Smith (Law & Order UK).
The official synopsis reads: “Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities.
“When Frederick Wentworth—the dashing one she once sent away—crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances.”
Following our previous glimpse of Persuasion, the latest two-minute preview gives us more of an impression of the movie’s playful tone.

Persuasion will premiere exclusively on Netflix around the world on Friday 15th July.
The adaptation has been described as “a modern, witty approach to a beloved story,” but the filmmakers have promised that it’ll stay “true to Jane Austen’s classic novel.”
We’ve also got a brand new poster to share with you too:
Persuasion is the movie directorial debut of acclaimed theatre director Carrie Cracknell (Sea Wall/A Life on Broadway), with a script by Alice Victoria Winslow and Rain Man screenwriter Ron Bass.
And if you can’t get enough of Persuasion, there’s another adaptation of the novel being made too, with Succession actress Sarah Snook playing Anne Elliot.
Can you believe it’s somehow 15 years since Rupert Penry-Jones (Whitechapel) and Sally Hawkins (Paddington) starred in ITV’s Persuasion mini-series in 2007?
