Prime Video shares trailer and preview images of new Tudor series ‘My Lady Jane’

Prime Video has shared the official video for its upcoming eight-part romance-fantasy (romantasy) series My Lady Jane. The eight-part series is inspired by Cynthia Hand’s novel of the same name.

What is ‘romantasy’?

The series has been described as from the ‘romantasy’ genre, a subgenre of fantasy fiction that combines elements of romance and fantasy as well as many of the traditional features of chivalric romance stories. It combines action with adventure, comedy, romance, swashbuckling, shenanagins and more.

What is it about?

My Lady Jane takes place in an alternate better world in which Henry VIII’s son Edward VI did not die young and Lady Jane and her husband Guildford Dudley were not executed in 1583. It’s an epic tale of romance and adventure in which Lady Jane finds herself unexpectedly crowned queen and is forced to defend herself against the many villains who are all hell-bent on wresting her new crown from her head.

Who is in it?

Newcomer Emily Bader will play the titular role of Jane Grey opposite Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve) as Guildford Dudley,  Jordan Peters (Pirates) as King Edward, and Dominic Cooper (Preacher) as Lord Seymour. Additional cast members include Anna Chancellor (Hotel Portofino) as Jane’s mother, Lady Frances Grey, and Rob Brydon (The Trip) as Lord Dudley, Guildford’s father.  Jim Broadbent (The Duke)  will also appear as the Duke of Leicester, Jane’s uncle.

The show’s co-creators and executive producers are Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn, while Jamie Babbit (Only Murders in the Building) will direct five of the eight episodes.

 All eight episodes will premiere globally on Thursday, June 27, 2024, exclusively on Prime Video.
