First look at ‘Durrells’ and ‘Midwife’ stars as Charles and Camilla in ‘The Crown’
Empire magazine has revealed the first glimpse of two familiar faces in the new season of The Crown.
Dramatising the reign of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Netflix’s award-winning period drama returns next month.
The upcoming third season will see the show’s entire cast being replaced by older actors as the story moves further into the second half of the 20th Century.
Joining The Favourite star Olivia Colman as Elizabeth and Tobias Menzies (Outlander) as Prince Philip are two actors that British period drama fans will definitely recognise.
Josh O’Connor (Larry in The Durrells) will be appearing as Prince Charles.
He’ll star alongside Emerald Fennell, best known as Nurse Patsy Mount in Call the Midwife, here playing Charles’ future wife Camilla.
Other new cast members include Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as Lord Louis Mountbatten, Jason Watkins (A Very English Scandal) as Prime Minister Harold Wilson, and Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter) as Princess Margaret.
Josh O’Connor has revealed that he found his first day filming The Crown quite tough.
He explained to Radio Times: “There were more physically demanding scenes or emotionally demanding scenes, but the first day on set was the hardest because I walked into an unbelievable powerhouse of a series with incredible actors like Olivia and Helena and Tobias.
“There’s an endless list of brilliant actors. Walking in and feeling the weight of it, it was so difficult.”
Season 3 is available to watch exclusively on Netflix from Sunday 17th November.
It was announced recently who’ll be playing Margaret Thatcher and who’ll be playing Princess Diana in the fourth season of The Crown, which is filming now.
The Crown is available to buy on DVD on Amazon.
