Rebecca Ferguson to join cast of new Cillian Murphy ‘Peaky Blinders’ film

‘Mission Impossible’ franchise star Rebecca Ferguson has been cast along with Cillian Murphy in the new Peaky Blinders film that is going into production shortly. The film will pick up where the six-season series left off. 

An announcement straight from the Peaky Blinders film account on the X platform confirmed the news:

“The word is out… Rebecca Ferguson has been cast in the Peaky Blinders movie.”

Rebecca Ferguson is known for her roles in the two Dune films, The White Queen, and The Greatest Showman. 

What is it about?

The gangster saga was set in Birmingham in the years following WWI and covered up as far as 1934. It charts the ascent of former soldier and eventual crime boss Tommy Shelby and the rest of his family as they navigate the criminal underworld in a time of great, social, economic and political change. 

Who is in the cast?

To date only Rebecca Ferguson and Oscar-winning lead Cillian Murphy have been confirmed as returning. 

The regular cast of the television series included Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby), Ned Dennehy (Charlie Strong), Natasha O’Keeffe (Lizzie Shelby), Packy Lee (Johnny Dogs), Anya Taylor-Joy (Gina Gray) and Tom Hardy (Alfie) but it is not clear yet which members will reprise their roles. Tom Hardy has previously voiced his interest in returning as Alfie. 

Who is behind it?

Series creator Steven Knight will return as screenwriter for the film. The Peaky Blinders boss said: “I am thrilled that we have such an exceptional cast and such an exceptional team to tell this story inspired by an exceptional family.“

Executive producer Karen Wilson added: “I can’t think of a better cast of actors to bring Steven’s incredible scripts to life.“

Tom Harper is directing Steven Knight’s script. The producers are Caryn Mandabach, Steven Knight, Cillian Murphy and Guy Heeley. The executive  producers include Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren and David Mason. The film is produced in association with BBC Film. 

When will it air?

It will be released in 2025 but the date is not known yet.
