Watch a recap video for the first season of ‘Sanditon’

With the return of Sanditon now imminent, it’s the perfect time to catch up on the story so far!

The hugely popular British period drama series received a surprise two-season renewal last year, despite being axed in 2020, following a passionate campaign from fans.

Based on Jane Austen’s unfinished final novelSanditon debuted almost three years ago on ITV.

Filming on Season 2 began last summer in Bristol, England and the six brand new episodes will arrive on our screens next month!

Watch the trailer:

The first season told the story of the joyously impulsive, spirited and unconventional Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) and her spiky relationship with the charming Sidney Parker (Theo James).

When a chance accident transports her from her rural hometown of Willingden to the would-be coastal resort of Sanditon, it exposes Charlotte to the intrigues and dalliances of a seaside town on the make, and the characters whose fortunes depend on its commercial success.

The twists and turns of the plot, which takes viewers from the West Indies to the rotting alleys of London, exposes the hidden agendas of each character and sees Charlotte discover herself… and ultimately find love.

Austen’s original 11-chapter Sanditon manuscript was brought to life by Emmy and BAFTA-Award winning screenwriter Andrew Davies (Pride & PrejudiceLes Misérables).
