Second season of ‘Sanditon’ has officially started filming!

It’s really happening!

Cameras have started rolling in England on the much-anticipated new season of Sanditon.

It was announced this spring that ITV’s period drama series had received a surprise two-season renewal, despite being cancelled early last year.

Based on Jane Austen’s unfinished final novelSanditon premiered in 2019 in the UK, then aired in the US in early 2020.

The cast reunited for the first script read-through a few weeks ago.

Red Planet Pictures has released an official announcement today confirming that Season 2 has now started filming.

Executive producer Belinda Campbell commented: “It’s a joy to be returning to the sunshiny shores of Sanditon in the company of such an incredible cast–including some very exciting new faces.

“Writer/executive producer Justin Young has plenty of fabulous adventures in store for all our characters. I can’t wait to see them come to life on screen.”

Masterpiece executive producer Susanne Simpson added: “Fans who are craving romance and escape will find them in abundance in the new season of Sanditon, with its intriguing characters and captivating storylines.

“Our partners at Red Planet Pictures have done a brilliant job capturing the magic that won viewers’ hearts in Season 1.”

The official synopsis for Season 2 reads: “After fans were left hanging in suspense by the first season’s finale and clamoring for more, the drama will continue to follow the high-spirited and independent heroine, Charlotte Heywood as she returns to the picturesque coastal resort of Sanditon.

“Charlotte’s journey is one thread of an intricate tapestry of compelling stories full of intrigue, excitement, and romance.

“Against the backdrop of beautiful vistas, familiar faces return and new inhabitants are introduced — all of whom will be having adventures as joyous and surprising as the seaside town itself.”

Season 2 is expected to premiere in early 2022 on BritBox in the UK, before airing on ITV, and it’ll air on PBS Masterpiece in the US.

Season 3 looks set to follow in 2023.
