Starz has announced that filming of its eagerly anticipated prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood has wrapped in Scotland.
Filming began in January in Glasgow, Scotland. Part of the series was also filmed on location at Doune Castle, which was used as Castle Leoch.
What is it about?
The series follows the future parents of Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp from the original series. Jamie’s parents in 18th century Scotland, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser are played by Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy. Claire’s parents in the 1910s, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp are played by Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine.
Here’s the official description from Starz:
Outlander: Blood of My Blood will explore the lives and relationship of Claire’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp and Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods.
The series is set to run for ten episodes, airing on Starz.
Who is in the cast?
The large ensemble cast is a mixture of familiar and fresh faces; Rory Alexander plays young Murtagh, with Sam Retford as young Dougal, Séamus McLean Ross as young Colum, and Conor MacNeill as young Ned Gowan. Meanwhile, Tony Curran (Mary & George) will be Brian’s father, Lord Lovat, and Peter Mullan takes the role of Red Jacob MacKenzie, the father of Ellen, Dougal, and Colum (Gary Lewis and Bill Paterson played the older versions of Colum and Ned in Outlander).
Sara Vickers (Endeavour) is set to play Brian’s mother Davina Porter, with the late Brian McCardie as Isaac Grant, and Jhon Lumsden as Malcolm Grant.
Who is behind it?
Matthew B. Roberts, Outlander’s co-runner, will return to write the prequel. He said in a statement:
“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.“
Author Diana Gabaldon, who wrote the books that inspired the series, acts as a consulting producer, while Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore both return as executive producers.
When will it air?
Starz announced that it will premiere in 2025 but the date has not yet been confirmed.
Outlander Season 7, Part 2 premieres Friday, November 22, 2024 on Starz.
