Watch the trailer of the new Veuve Clicquot period drama about the famous Champagne family

Widow Clicquot is the extraordinary true story of the Veuve Clicquot champagne family and the origins of the hugely successful French luxury brand that began in the late 18th century.

What is it about?

Cyrano star Haley Bennett plays the main role of Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot (1777 – 1866) who, through tragic circumstances, finds herself widowed at 26, and defies convention by taking over the fledgling vineyard that she and her husband had cultivated together.

“Veuve” is French word for “widow,” and this widow successfully navigated her company through choppy political and financial waters, eventually transforming the winery into the world’s leading brand of champagne.

Under Madame Clicquot’s supervision, the winery focused entirely on champagne, and succeeded with the help of financial support pledged from her father-in-law. The company is credited with inventing the riddling table process to clarify champagne in 1816 and today is one of the largest Champagne houses in France.

Who is in the cast?

Haley Bennett is joined by Tom Sturridge ( The Sandman) as her husband, Sam Riley (Maleficent) as wine merchant Louis Bohne, Anson Boon (1917), Leo Suter (Vikings: Valhalla), Ben Miles (The Crown), Natasha O’Keeffe (Peaky Blinders) and more.
