‘The Durrells’ producers are already planning a sequel series!
The makers of The Durrells are developing ideas for a follow-up.
Based upon Gerald Durrell’s classic trilogy of Corfu memoirs, ITV’s 1930s family period drama launched in 2016 and its final season aired earlier this year.
However, it seems that the show’s creative team have been hard at work on a revival series already!
Executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle told Deadline: “There are other books. We’ve been down to Bournemouth to meet [Gerald Durrell’s] granddaughter.”
Woodward revealed that The Durrells writer Simon Nye has begun working on the project.
She commented: “We’ve got a strong idea of what we’re going to do and Simon’s starting to work on it.”
The Crown star Josh O’Connor previously hinted that the series could return at some point.
The actor, who played Larry in all four seasons of The Durrells, said: “I’m sure there are stories to be told but it just sort of feels like a really good time to give it some space now.”
O’Connor’s co-star Callum Woodhouse, who played Leslie, has also expressed interest in returning for a Christmas special.
The Durrells creator Simon Nye and star Keeley Hawes are reuniting next year for a new ITV drama called Finding Alice.
All four seasons of The Durrells are available on DVD on Amazon.
