‘The Electrical Life of Louis Wain’ preview: Benedict Cumberbatch stars in artist drama
Several new photos have been released for Benedict Cumberbatch’s latest movie.
The Sherlock actor plays the titular famous painter in The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.
Cumberbatch stars along alongside Claire Foy from The Crown as Wain’s wife.
The upcoming period drama tells “the extraordinary true story of a brilliant man inspired by both his love of the world and the love of his life Emily.”
Born in London in 1860, Wain was best known for his artworks featuring anthropomorphized large-eyed cats and kittens.
The English artist died in 1939, having suffered from schizophrenia in his later years.
The cast also includes Andrea Riseborough (The Witness for the Prosecution), Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag), Adeel Akhtar (Les Miserables), Toby Jones (Dad’s Army), Asim Chaudhry (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch), and Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), alongside Stacy Martin, Sharon Rooney, Hayley Squires and Aimee Lou Wood as Wain’s eccentric sisters.
The official synopsis reads: “[Director Will] Sharpe’s sweeping tale stars Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch as British artist Louis Wain in the extraordinary true story of a brilliant man, inspired by both his love of the world and the love of his life Emily, played by BAFTA nominee Claire Foy.
“Famous for his distinctive paintings of cats that inspired hearts and minds around the world, Louis Wain is a loveable, inspirational hero with a courageous and infectious spirit, who saw the world in a unique and delightful way throughout his long life full of adventure, inspiring people to do the same.”
The Electrical Life of Louis Wain will be released later this year, with the release date yet to be confirmed.
Directed by Will Sharpe (Flowers), the movie began filming in August 2019.
It was announced last week that Benedict Cumberbatch will also be starring in a new version of classic espionage thriller The 39 Steps.
