Emily Blunt stars in new BBC period drama ‘The English’ – watch the trailer!

The BBC has released a new trailer for The English.

Written and directed by the award-winning Hugo Blick (The Honourable WomanThe Shadow Line), the series premieres next month.

Emily Blunt (Mary Poppins Returns, The Young Victoria) leads the “high-octane epic western” as an aristocratic Englishwoman in late 19th century America.

The six-part period drama was filmed in Spain last year.

The English launches in the UK on Thursday 10th November on BBC Two.

All six episodes will immediately be available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

The show will then debut in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Nordics the following day on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 11th November.

The BBC’s official trailer opens with Blunt’s character warning: “Someone killed my child, and how I’m going to kill him…”

The official synopsis reads: “An aristocratic Englishwoman, Lady Cornelia Locke (Emily Blunt) and a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout, Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer) come together in 1890 mid-America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood.

“Both of them have a clear sense of their destiny but neither is aware that it is rooted in a shared past. They must face increasingly terrifying obstacles that will test them to their cores, physically and psychologically. But as each obstacle is overcome it draws them closer to their ultimate destination, the new town of Hoxem, Wyoming.

“It is here, after an investigation by the local sheriff Robert Marshall and young widow Martha Myers into a series of bizarre and macabre unsolved murders, that the full extent of their intertwined history will be truly understood, and they will come face to face with the future they must live.”

Amazon Prime Video have released their own trailer too, featuring lots more footage.

You can see that here, but be warned, it’s a fair bit more intense and violent than the previous BBC trailer:

Alongside Blunt and Spencer, the cast also includes Victoria star Tom Hughes, Rafe Spall (The Salisbury Poisonings), Stephen Rea (The Shadow Line), Valerie Pachner (The King’s Man), Toby Jones (Detectorists), Ciaran Hinds (The Woman In Black), Malcolm Storry (Doc Martin), Steve Wall (Raised By Wolves), Nichola McAuliffe (Doctor Who), Sule Rimi (Strike Back), and Cristian Solimeno (Guilt).

Executive producer Greg Brenman previously teased: “Hugo Blick has created a compelling, modern love story set against the epic landscape of a Western. The English is a true adventure that will tell us as much about the times we live in today as the period in which it is set.”

Mary Poppins Returns is available on DVD on Amazon.
