‘The Famous Five’ preview: 10 new pics from ‘The Curse of Kirrin Island’
Lots of new images for The Famous Five have been unveiled!
The upcoming family drama is based on the classic children’s novels by English author Enid Blyton, with three feature-length episodes filming across the UK’s South West over the past summer.
It’s now been officially revealed by the BBC that we’ll get to see the first of these adventures this Christmas, with a December 2023 release date for ‘The Curse of Kirrin Island’.
Here’s a sneak peek:
The 90-minute TV movie will premiere in the UK on BBC One, the CBBC channel, and streaming on BBC iPlayer later this month.
We’re not sure who’ll be airing the show in the US yet, but in Germany it’ll be on ZDF, and in France it’ll be on TF1.
If you’re not familiar with Enid Blyton’s iconic stories, The Famous Five follows a group of daring young explorers.
We’re told that they’ll be encountering some action-packed adventures in the TV series, with the BBC promising “remarkable mysteries, unparalleled danger, and astounding secrets in an unforgettable odyssey that evokes the power of camaraderie between the fearless young heroes.”
Pictured above is Elliott Rose (The Northman) as Julian.
You might recognise Kit Rakusen from Belfast as Dick, while newcomer Flora Jacoby Richardson is playing Anne.
Welcoming her three cousins to stay at Kirrin Cottage is George.
She’s played by Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey actress Diaana Babnicova.
Of course, the Famous Five line-up wouldn’t be complete with Timmy the Dog, who’s portrayed by this gorgeous Bearded Collie Cross named Kip.
‘The Curse of Kirrin Island’ sees a body wash up on the beach, apparently the victim of a local curse.
We’ll follow cousins George, Julian, Dick, Anne and Timmy the dog as they set out to discover the source of the problem – Kirrin Island, an uninhabited island that belongs to the family.
Alongside our titular heroes, the first episode features Irish actor Jack Gleeson, best known for playing the evil Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones.
Here he’s a character called Wentworth, and we’ve got a sneaking suspicion that this will be another villain role for Gleeson!
The cast also includes Ann Akinjirin (Moon Knight, I May Destroy You) as Fanny, James Lance (Ted Lasso, Bronson) as Quentin, and Diana Quick (Father Brown, Houdini and Doyle) as Mrs Wentworth.
Another two episodes of The Famous Five are set to follow in 2024.
We expect these will air at Easter and perhaps during a Bank Holiday weekend next summer.
