Will there be a second season of ‘The Great’ on Hulu?
Hulu has made an announcement about the future of The Great.
Set in 18th century Russia, the comedy-drama tells the story of Catherine the Great’s rise to power.
The first season premiered in the US in May exclusively on Hulu, and debuted in the UK last month.
Created by the Oscar-nominated writer of The Favourite, Tony McNamara, The Great stars Elle Fanning (Ginger & Rosa) as Catherine and Nicholas Hoult (The Favourite) as Peter III.
Hulu presented The Great as a “fictionalised, fun and anachronistic story”, with “only occasional historical facts.”
The approach seems to have worked, as the show has become was “one of the top performing original comedies” on the service.
So in unsurprising but very welcome news, Hulu has confirmed that they’ve ordered a second season!
American actress Elle Fanning shared the announcement on her Instagram account, with a light-hearted threat for her co-star Nicholas Hoult!
Alongside Fanning and Hoult, the cast also includes Gwilym Lee (Bohemian Rhapsody) as Grigor, and Phoebe Fox (Eye in the Sky) as Marial, alongside Adam Godley (Breaking Bad), Charity Wakefield (Sense & Sensibility), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful), and Sacha Dhawan (Dracula).
Season 2 is expected to premiere on Hulu in 2021.
In the meantime, we’d suggest checking out Helen Mirren’s Catherine the Great series, which aired on HBO last year.
HBO’s Catherine the Great series is available to watch on Amazon.
