‘The Larkins’ is getting a Christmas special this year

A festive instalment of The Larkins has been announced!

ITV’s new comedy-drama series is based on the classic novels by H.E. Bates, which were previously adapted as The Darling Buds of May in the early 1990s.

Set in the late 1950’s, The Larkins follows the golden-hearted wheeler dealer Pop Larkin and his wife Ma, together with their six children, including the beautiful Mariette, as they bask in their idyllic and beautiful patch of paradise in Kent.

From the creator of The Durrells, the show launched earlier this month.

Reviewers described the opening episode as “great fun” and “a joyous, comforting and homely show which feels like you’re getting a big old hug.”

It’s now been confirmed that, following the six-part first season, The Larkins will return in December on UK screens with a Christmas special.

The festive episode is currently filming in Kent, England.

Actor Bradley Walsh (Doctor Who), who plays Pop, revealed the news on BBC One’s The One Show.

He told them: “We’re making the Christmas Larkins in Kent. We’ve got all the snow – honestly, it’s amazing, absolutely tremendous. Brilliant, brilliant.”

He’ll be joined in the Christmas special by all the main cast, including Joanna Scanlan (Notes on a Scandal) as Ma, Bridgerton actress Sabrina Bartlett as Mariette Larkin, and Tok Stephen (Grantchester) as Cedric ‘Charley’ Charlton.

Bradley Walsh recently explained why he thinks The Larkins will be welcome after past couple of years: “I think the pandemic has brought a lot of people closer together and they’ve realised how much they miss people in their lives and to stop rushing around, stop chasing and spend time more time with your family.”

The Larkins continues in the UK on Sunday evenings at 8pm on ITV.

The series is expected to premiere in the US in 2022.
