‘The Last Duel’ trailer: Jodie Comer stars in ‘Gladiator’s director’s medieval movie
The first trailer has been unveiled for Ridley Scott’s epic new historical drama.
The Last Duel is based on Eric Jager’s 2004 book The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France, which explores the real-life events of France’s last officially recognised judicial duel.
Set in 14th century France, the movie is “a tale of betrayal and vengeance” starring Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Adam Driver (Star Wars), Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity), and Ben Affleck (Shakespeare in Love).
The cast also includes Alex Lawther (The Imitation Game), Harriet Walter (Downton Abbey), Nathaniel Parker (Merlin), and Sam Hazeldine (Peaky Blinders).
Damon and Affleck have also written the script, with Nicole Holofcener, reuniting for the first time since they won an Oscar with the screenplay for 1997’s Good Will Hunting.
The trio commented: “This film is an effort to retell the story of a heroic woman from history whom most people haven’t heard of. We admired her bravery and resolute determination and felt this was both a story that needed to be told and one whose drama would captivate audiences the way it moved us as writers.
“As we further explored the story, we found so many aspects of the formal, codified patriarchy of 14th century Western Europe to still be present in vestigial ways (and in some cases almost unchanged) in today’s society.
“We chose to use the device of telling the story from several character’s perspectives in order to examine the immutable fact that although often multiple people who experience the same event come away with differing accounts, there can only be one truth.”

The Last Duel arrives in cinemas on Friday 15th October.
Jodie Comer is currently filming the fourth and final season of Killing Eve.
She’ll then be reuniting with The Last Duel director Ridley Scott in his next epic historical movie.
Kitbag is described as “an original and personal look at Napoleon Bonaparte’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.”
Comer is set to play Josephine in the film.
The Last Duel is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
