Netflix confirms US premiere date for Jenna Coleman drama ‘The Serpent’
The Serpent will finally be available for American audiences to watch this week!
From the makers of Endeavour and the creator of Ripper Street, the true crime drama was a massive hit in the UK earlier this year on BBC One.
Set in the 1970s and inspired by a phenomenal true story, The Serpent tells how Charles Sobrhaj, one of the most elusive criminals of the 20th century, was caught and brought to trial.
Alongside French actor Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) as Charles, Victoria star Jenna Coleman plays Marie-Andrée Leclerc, Sobhraj’s partner and frequent accomplice.

All eight episodes of The Serpent will be available to watch on Netflix in the US and internationally from Friday 2nd April.
The series is available to watch on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
The official synopsis reads: “Charles Sobhraj was the chief suspect in the unsolved murders of up to 20 young Western travellers across India, Thailand and Nepal’s ‘Hippie Trail’ in 1975 and 1976.
“Psychopath, con man, thief and master of disguise, having slipped repeatedly from the grasp of authorities worldwide, by 1976 serial killer Sobhraj was Interpol’s most wanted man and had arrest warrants on three different continents.
“When Herman Knippenberg, a junior diplomat at the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok, unwittingly walks into Sobhraj’s intricate web of crime, he sets off an extraordinary chain of events that will see Knippenberg seek to bring Sobhraj to justice for his terrible crimes.”
Jenna Coleman has explained why the role fascinated her: “The constant play between Monique and Marie-Andrée felt like such complex material. But also the story – it reels you in completely. And the fact that it’s true.”
She added: “There’s something about the hedonistic world of the 1970s where you could get lost in a way that you can’t get lost in the world anymore.”
The 34-year-old English actress recently gave Victoria fans an update on what’s happening with the period drama’s long-awaited fourth season.
Victoria is available on DVD on Amazon.
