Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes and Dev Patel join new Roald Dahl movie

Netflix has revealed an incredible cast of British acting talent for its latest Roald Dahl project.

The streaming service has a number of adaptations in the works based on the English novelist’s classic stories, after they acquired the Roald Dahl Story Company last September.

Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit) is already working on a series based on the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,  while a film based on the hit stage show Matilda: The Musical is also on the way.

Next up is a feature film adaptation of The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

Dahl’s collection of seven short stories was first published in 1977, having been written at varying times throughout his life.

Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums) is going to direct the movie.

The American filmmaker previously made an animated version of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox in 2009, featuring the voices of George Clooney, Bill Murray, Meryl Streep, and Owen Wilson.

Netflix’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar has already attracted a similarly starry cast.

Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) is set to play the titular Henry Sugar, alongside Ralph Fiennes (Harry Potter), Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), Rupert Friend (The Young Victoria), and Dev Patel (The Green Knight).

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar begins filming in London, England this week.

It’s currently uncertain which of the short stories from the book will be included in the movie, or if the stories will retain their original time period settings.

The film is expected to premiere on Netflix around the world in 2023.
