‘Victoria’ star Jenna Coleman ‘can’t wait to see’ new female Doctor Who

Jenna Coleman has spoken of her excitement about the news that the next star of Doctor Who will be a woman for the first time in the show’s 54-year history.

The Victoria star shot to fame playing teacher Clara Oswald in the BBC’s long-running drama series from 2012 to 2015.

Current Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi is leaving the role of show’s titular alien time-traveller this Christmas after four years.

It was announced in July that Broadchurch actress Jodie Whittaker will play the Doctor when the show returns next year.

Jenna Coleman told The Telegraph: “Jodie is such a clever actress. I can’t wait to see what she does.”

She added: “I just want to hear her speak. It’s a really exciting time.”

The second season of Victoria, which stars Coleman as the titular Queen, is currently airing in the UK on Sunday nights on ITV and will premiere in the US on Sunday January 14, 2018 on Masterpiece on PBS.

Season 1 is available now on DVD.

Jenna Coleman is apparently making a return to Doctor Who in this year’s Christmas special.
