‘Victoria’ writer promises ‘more drama than ever before’ in Season 3

The creator of Victoria has offered the first hints at what to expect in the hit period drama’s third season.

The commission of more episodes was announced by ITV in December.

Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) and Tom Hughes (The Game) will both be returning as Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in Season 3, which is expected to begin filming this spring.

Victoria writer Daisy Goodwin revealed: “[Season 3] will start in 1848 which was a hugely dramatic and eventful time for both the royal family and Europe, with revolutions on the continent and uncertainty around the monarchy.”

She added: “Viewers can expect more drama than ever before in the third series.”

Executive producer Damien Timmer previously hinted that the new season will be “filled to the brim with royal scandals, political skirmishes and constitutional crises.”

The first season of Victoria is available now on DVD.

Season 2 begins in the US on Sunday 14 January on Masterpiece on PBS.
