‘Vikings’ finally confirms release date for final season – watch the epic new trailer!
It’s been officially announced (at last) when Vikings will be back!
Inspired by the sagas of Viking Ragnar Lothbrok, the historical drama series launched in 2013 and has previously aired on the History channel.
The final season’s 20 episodes have been split in two parts, with the first half premiering in December last year.
It’s been a long wait for Vikings fans wanting to see the last ever episodes, but we now know when Season 6b will arrive.
Rather than airing weekly on History, this time all 10 remaining episodes will drop on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday 30th December.
Vikings creator Michael Hirst has hinted that viewers should expect to say a dramatic goodbye to some of their favourite characters, commenting: “The characters who we all, including me, have grown to love will have their fates decided. Whether they live or die is, of course, in the hands of the gods, although I had a hand in it too.”

The show’s official synopsis reads: “Vikings follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok the greatest hero of his age. The series tells the sagas of Ragnar’s band of Viking brothers and his family, as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes.
“As well as being a fearless warrior, Ragnar embodies the Norse traditions of devotion to the gods, legend has it that he was a direct descendant of Odin, the god of war and warriors.”
A sequel series, titled Vikings: Valhalla, is currently in production and will premiere exclusively on Netflix in 2021.
Every episode of Vikings is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
