New on BritBox in the US for March 2024: Agatha Christie’s ‘Murder is Easy’ and more!

BritBox has more wonderful British television shows for American audiences this March.

The streaming service begins the month with the BBC’s latest Agatha Christie mystery, Murder is Easy.

Based on the iconic author’s 1939 novel of the same name, the two-part adaptation boasts Downton Abbey actress Penelope Wilton amongst its cast, alongside Douglas Henshall (Shetland), Mathew Baynton (Ghosts), Mark Bonnar (Guilt), and Morfydd Clark (Lord of the Rings).

Crime drama fans will then have a bumper selection of classic Lynda La Plante dramas to enjoy, including all 22 seasons of Trial and Retribution!

Other highlights include the second season of BBC prison drama Time, which welcomes former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker this time around.

Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy (available from 1 March 2024)

Based on the classic Agatha Christie mystery, Murder Is Easy tells the story of Luke Fitzwilliam who finds himself on the trail of a serial killer after meeting Miss Pinkerton on a train to London.

She tells him about a series of suspicious deaths that have taken place in her village. When she later turns up dead herself – while on the way to visit Scotland Yard – Fitzwilliam realizes he needs to find the killer before yet more bodies start piling up.

The two-part series features Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey), Morfydd Clark (Lord of the Rings), and Douglas Henshall (Shetland).

 

The Helen West Casebook (available from 8 March 2024)

Crime Prosecutor Helen West (Amanda Burton, Silent Witness) and her policeman boyfriend Geoffrey Bailey (Conor Mullen, Mr. Bates vs The Post Office) uncover a web of abuse and murder after the wife of a London pharmacist turns up dead.

 

The Governor – Seasons 1-2 (available from 11 March 2024)

Following a disastrous prison riot, the highly publicized appointment of Helen Hewitt (Janet McTeer, Ozark), the youngest woman to be in charge of an all-male prison, only increases the unrest in the already volatile situation.

Criminologist David Wilson (In the Footsteps of Killers) explores the history of HM Prison Holloway and its high profile female inmates, from Emmeline Pankhurst and Diana Mitford to Myra Hindley and Rose West.

 

No Offence – Season 3 (available from 22 March 2024)

Written by BAFTA-winner Paul Abbott (Shameless, State of Play), No Offence is a police procedural with a difference.

DI Vivienne Deering (Joanna Scanlan, Hold the Sunset) leads her ramshackle team of raucous officers, tackling crime in their jurisdiction, firmly on the wrong side of the tracks.

 

Time – Season 2 (available weekly from 22 March 2024)

Jodie Whittaker, Tamara Lawrance and Bella Ramsey lead the cast in Jimmy McGovern’s poignant drama Time.

An original new story told through the lens of three very different inmates, Time is a moving and high-stakes portrayal of life inside a women’s prison.

Season 2 is co-written by Jimmy McGovern (Broken, Cracker, The Street) and Helen Black, the writer of the now BAFTA-nominated Life and Death in the Warehouse.

Arriving at Carlingford Prison on the same day, Orla (Jodie Whittaker), Abi (Tamara Lawrance) and Kelsey (Bella Ramsey) are thrown together to face an unfamiliar world. But even with the ever-present threat of violence within its walls, they discover that an unexpected sense of community and a shared understanding still might be possible
