Will ‘Father Brown’ be returning for Season 8 in 2020?

Father Brown fans are eager to find out if the show has been renewed for another season.

Set in the Cotswolds in the early 1950s and based on the stories by GK Chesterton, the period drama series launched in 2013 and returned in January for a seventh run of mysteries on BBC One in the UK.

Harry Potter actor Mark Williams was back as the titular crime-busting Roman Catholic priest in 10 brand new episodes.

However, despite its reliably strong ratings, the BBC has yet to announce if Father Brown will be recommissioned for Season 8.

Fans needn’t worry just yet, as the show’s future looks safe.

Father Brown has become one of the BBC’s biggest global successes over the past few years, airing in ‘232 countries’ around the world.

In the USA it’s the only UK drama reaching more than 100 million homes in primetime, thanks to a syndication deal with PBS.

Season 7 will be shown in the USA later this year so we’re likely to hear confirmation of the show’s renewal around that time.

Assuming Season 8 goes ahead, we’d expect to see another run of 10 or 15 episodes of Father Brown premiere in January 2020.

Father Brown is available on DVD on Amazon.
