Brilliant news for fans of The Other Bennet Sister!
The period drama series was a massive hit for the BBC earlier this year, becoming the biggest launch of a new drama across all platforms and streamers in the UK since May 2025, with 7.3 million viewers watching in its first 28 days.
Based on Janice Hadlow’s acclaimed novel, The Other Bennet Sister followed Mary Bennet, the oft-overlooked middle sister in Pride & Prejudice as she navigated the societal pressures of Regency England.
The 10 episodes adapted all of the novel, so while we loved the series, we weren’t expecting it to return.
However, we’re very happy to report that The Other Bennet Sister will be back this Christmas on BBC One with not one but three special festive instalments.
The final episode saw Mary agreeing to wed Tom Hayward, and now fans will get to see what comes next for the happy couple.
The Christmas specials will be written by screenwriter Sarah Quintrell, who wrote nine of the show’s ten episodes, based on storylines by original author Janice Hadlow.
Filming is set to begin in Wales this summer, with Ella Bruccoleri reprising her role as Mary, alongside “a host of other familiar faces from the series.”
“We always hoped audiences would fall in love with Mary Bennet’s story, but the response to The Other Bennet Sister has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations,” said executive producer Jane Tranter.
“These Christmas specials give us the chance to spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts, and to explore what happens after the wedding bells fade and real life begins,” she teased.

“It’s been incredibly exciting to see Mary Bennet cause such a sensation in 2026, and we could not be happier to announce this new three-part Christmas gift to her millions of fans,” commented Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama says.
“Marriage was just the beginning for the no-longer-so-overlooked Bennet sister, and it’s a joy to be working with Sarah, Janice and the Bad Wolf team to let viewers discover what comes next,” added Salt.
The three 30-minute specials will premiere in the UK exclusively BBC One and streaming on BBC iPlayer this December.
The episodes will be available to watch on BritBox in the US and Canada.
