Mary Bennet’s determination to become a woman guided by reason rather than emotion is immediately put to the test when an important visitor arrives at Longbourn: Mr Collins.

Mary Bennet has always been the odd one out in her family. While her sisters attract admirers and attention, Mary retreats into her world of books, facts and accomplishments, convinced that her knowledge might make up for everything that she believes she lacks.

Having decided that marriage may not be necessary for her happiness, Mary Bennet heads north with the Gardiners in search of a new beginning. Instead, the Lake District brings an unexpected reunion with Tom Hayward and the possibility that Mary may not be finished with love after all.
