‘A Spy Among Friends’ trailer: Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce lead real-life spy drama

The first trailer has been released for A Spy Among Friends.

Described as an “epic telling of one of the greatest spy stories ever,” the six-part limited series is based on the book by Ben Macintyre.

Damian Lewis (Homeland) and Guy Pearce (Memento) are playing Cold War spies Nicholas Elliott and Kim Philby in ITVX’s new drama, which reunites Lewis with his former Homeland exec, Alexander Cary.

The Forsyte Saga star previously commented: “These fabulous scripts by Alex Cary take an up-close look at friendship – a friendship that was blinded by love, class, and membership to the right clubs, and ended in betrayal and the deaths of thousands.”

The official synopsis reads: “A Spy Among Friends dramatises the true story of Nicholas Elliott and Kim Philby, two British spies and lifelong friends.

“Philby was the most notorious British defector and Soviet double agent in history. Philby’s deeply personal betrayal, uncovered at the height of the Cold War, resulted in the gutting of British and American Intelligence.”

We’re told to expect “a story of intimate duplicity; of loyalty, trust and treachery.”

Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce will be joined by Anna Maxwell Martin (The Bletchley Circle), Stephen Kunken (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Adrian Edmondson (The Pact).
