‘The Confessions of Frannie Langton’ adaptation confirms release date

It’s been revealed when The Confessions of Frannie Langton will premiere in the UK!

Set against the dazzling opulence of Georgian London in 19th century England, the brand new period drama series is based on Sara Collins’ acclaimed 2019 novel.

The Confessions of Frannie Langton stars Karla-Simone Spence (Blue Story) as the book’s young protagonist, born into a life of slavery and fighting to tell her own story.

She’ll be joined in the “dark and gripping forbidden love story” by Sophie Cookson (The Trial of Christine Keeler), Patrick Martins (Redemption), Stephen Campbell Moore (War of The Worlds), Steven MacIntosh (Rocketman), and Henry Pettigrew (The Danish Girl).

The official synopsis reads: “The Confessions of Frannie Langton narrates Frannie’s journey from a Jamaican plantation to the grand Mayfair mansion of celebrated scientist George Benham and his exquisitely beautiful wife, Madame Marguerite Benham.

“In a misguided and monstrous gesture Frannie is gifted to Benham by the man who owns her, John Langton, and she is employed as a maid in the household much to her chagrin.

“As the plot twists and turns, events take a fateful turn as the Benhams are found murdered in their beds, with Frannie lying next to Marguerite. Frannie is accused of murder but swears that she couldn’t possibly have killed her mistress because she was devoted to her.

“Dragged away to prison, Frannie attempts to piece together the events of that night. She is deep into a laudanum addiction and unclear about precisely what happened…”

Directed by Andrea Harkin (The Trial of Christine Keeler), the four-part murder-mystery began filming in Yorkshire, England last summer.

It was announced yesterday that The Confessions of Frannie Langton will debut alongside the launch of ITVX in a few weeks’ time.

The new free streaming platform is replacing ITV Hub as the online home of all ITV content in the UK.

The Confessions of Frannie Langton will be available to watch on ITVX from Thursday 8th December.

Cold War espionage drama A Spy Among Friends is launching on ITVX on the same day – watch the trailer for that here:

Also dropping on ITVX in the coming months, we can look forward to the feature-length finale of Plebs, the fifth season of crime drama Unforgotten, and Helena Bonham Carter’s Nolly.

The Confessions of Frannie Langton and A Spy Among Friends will probably be shown on ITV eventually, but not until later next year.

We’re not yet sure when or where the series will air in the US, but we’ll keep you updated.
