‘Absolutely Fabulous’ could return with young Eddie and Patsy in the 1960s

We never imagined we’d be writing about Absolutely Fabulous as a period drama, but here we go!

Following the success of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie in 2016, the comedy’s producer has revealed that he’s potentially developing a prequel with star and writer Jennifer Saunders.

Saunders has played heavy-drinking PR agent Edina Monsoon alongside Joanna Lumley as best friend Patsy Stone since the BBC sitcom began in 1992.

The proposed new film would feature the characters of Eddie and Patsy back in the 1960s, played by different actresses, in the style of Mamma Mia 2.

Producer Jon Plowman told Radio Times: “We have talked for a few minutes about doing a prequel – how did they all meet and get together when they were much much younger.

“It hasn’t got anywhere yet and indeed may never get anywhere. It may be the worst idea anybody has ever had. So we could do that.”

He added: “We could equally do them in very old age like we did in a very earlier episode [of the TV series].”

The Absolutely Fabulous movie is available to buy on Amazon here.

Absolutely Fabulous ran for 39 episodes on BBC One between 1992 and 2012.
