‘The Yorkshire Vet’ meets ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ in special Christmas ep
A very exciting episode of The Yorkshire Vet is coming this festive season!
The popular documentary series will be getting a crossover special with another Yorkshire-based Channel 5 hit, All Creatures Great and Small.
The one-off 60-minute episode is set to bring together some of the key cast members from both of the much-loved shows.
The Yorkshire Vet is filmed in Thirsk, North Yorkshire – the working home of the real-life James Herriot.
First airing in 2015 and narrated by original All Creatures star Christopher Timothy, the series follows the vets, farmers and pet owners that call James Herriot country home.
All Creatures Great & Small: Yorkshire Vet Special will see Yorkshire Vet regulars Peter Wright and Shona Searson explore the world of Darrowby.
Peter even gets the chance to appear in All Creatures Great and Small himself as an extra, so look out for him on screen at Christmas!
“Both these series command huge audiences and we couldn’t resist putting the actors and the actual Herriot trainee and team together to create some heart-warming and entertaining TV,” commented Channel 5’s factual Commissioning Editor, Greg Barnett.
“In sort of a “job swap” way, viewers will get to see behind the scenes at this year’s Christmas special whilst some of the actors experience Skeldale Practice first-hand and get taken to a couple of James Herriot’s favourite places,” he teased. “It’s a real Christmas treat.”
The special will feature exclusive behind the scenes access to the filming of this year’s All Creatures Great and Small Christmas special with actors Nicholas Ralph (James Herriot) and Rachel Shenton (Helen Herriot).
Later on, Samuel West (Siegfried Farnon) and Anna Madeley (Mrs Hall) will cross into the world of The Yorkshire Vet, as the pair learn about the real people behind their characters, with visits to some of the now well-known haunts, including the real Drovers Arms!
“It’s going to be great introducing Sam West to people who knew Donald Sinclair, the real person who inspired his character Siegfried Farnon,” said Peter Wright.
All Creatures Great & Small: Yorkshire Vet Special airs in the UK at 8pm on Thursday 21 December on Channel 5, just before the festive instalment of All Creatures.
“This Christmas special promises to be a real treat for all animal lovers and a celebration of two brilliant shows,” promised executive producer Melanie Darlastan.
Now we just need confirmation of a fifth season for All Creatures Great and Small as the perfect Christmas present!
All Creatures Great and Small is available to watch on PBS Masterpiece via Amazon Prime with a free 7-day trial.
