It’s been confirmed when 2023’s festive Call the Midwife special will be on!

Ahead of the hit period drama’s upcoming thirteenth season, we’re heading back to Poplar soon for another feature-length Christmas episode.

A brand new 90-minute instalment is set in the December of 1968, two weeks before Christmas, with Apollo 8 poised to circle the moon.

Here’s a sneak peek at the lovely Trixie, played by Helen George:

The show’s Facebook page revealed this week when we’ll be able to watch the episode.

“It’s official!” they announced. “Call the Midwife will air its Christmas Special once again on Christmas day evening!!! 🎄🎅❄️🎉🚲👶❤️”

In the UK, it’ll premiere at 8:15pm on Monday 25 December on BBC One and streaming on BBC iPlayer.

Over in the US, American fans can see the special at 8pm ET on Monday 25 December on PBS, with the Call the Midwife team advising viewers to check their local station times.

“Can’t wait! This is a Christmas treat I look forward to each year,” replied one fan on Facebook.

“Yay! I really do look forward to this and Call the Midwife has become such a special part of Christmas Day for me,” wrote another.

We’ve got also got a synopsis for the episode, which provides some hints about what’s coming up for the residents of Nonnatus House.

“Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt) is convinced this could be her final Yuletide and decides she’ll not live to see man walk on the moon,” we’re told.

“The Nonnatus Family, including Trixie’s (Helen George) brother Geoffrey (Christopher Harper), decide something must be done to try and lighten her state of mind.

“Nancy (Megan Cusack) has recommitted to staying at Nonnatus House and Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) has offered her and Colette (Francesca Fullilove) a room for the foreseeable future.”

“Trixie and Matthew (Olly Rix), fresh from their honeymoon, are preparing their first Christmas together as husband and wife when Geoffrey pays them an unexpected visit days before Christmas,” continues the synopsis.

“Cyril (Zephryn Taitte) gently intervenes when he discovers a lost soul living alone in a dilapidated basement flat. For this man, Christmas is a reminder of all he’s lost and all he’s never had.

“Nurse Crane (Linda Bassett), away on her refresher course, makes it home in time for Christmas festivities despite a treacherously heavy snowfall.”

Season 13 finished filming earlier this month, and the new episodes are expected to launch in the UK in January 2024.

We’ll hopefully have an exact premiere date very soon!
