Netflix has released the first trailer for Michelle Dockery’s new British drama.
Best know for starring in Downton Abbey, the 40-year-old English actress leads the cast of Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Anatomy of a Scandal.
Sarah Vaughan’s 2017 novel explores a scandal among the British privileged elite and the women caught up in its wake.
The “insightful and suspenseful” six-part mini-series comes from Big Little Lies creator David E. Kelley, House Of Cards showrunner Melissa James Gibson, and Succession director S.J. Clarkson.
Michelle Dockery is joined by Sienna Miller (The Girl), Rupert Friend (Homeland), Naomi Scott (Aladdin), and Josette Simon (Broadchurch).
Dockery’s character, Kate Woodcroft, QC, is described as “a steely criminal barrister specialising in prosecuting sexual crimes who’s risen quickly in her field, and just got handed the case of a lifetime.”
The official synopsis for Anatomy of a Scandal reads: “A psychological thriller and gripping courtroom drama, the series infiltrates Britain’s elite through personal and political scandal, where the truth lies between justice and privilege. James and Sophie Whitehouse live in a blissful and rarefied world.
“A Minister in Parliament, a loving family at home, James’ trajectory appears without limits. Until a scandalous secret suddenly comes to light.
“Barrister Kate Woodcroft has a trajectory of her own, and her prosecution threatens to tear into Westminster, the Whitehouse marriage, and her own personal esteem.”
