‘Carnival Row’ finally confirms Season 2 release date – watch a teaser!
We’re going to be honest, we’d started to assume Carnival Row was never coming back.
Set in a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures, the series premiered way back in the summer of 2019.
Amazon Prime Video’s fantasy period drama saw Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean) and British model turned actress Cara Delevingne starring as police detective Philo and rebellious faerie Vignette.
Carnival Row was renewed for another season before the show had even made its debut, and Season 2 started shooting in November 2019.
That, of course, was over three years ago now, and the new episodes still haven’t arrived on our screens!
Well, we’re very pleased to report that fans won’t have to wait too much longer.
When’s the Season 2 release date?
It’s now been officially announced that Carnival Row will return at last on Friday 17th February 2023, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
The bad news is that Amazon has also revealed that the second season will also be the show’s last, wrapping up the story with a “thrilling conclusion.”
It’s a disappointing outcome for fans, but not a huge surprise, as the show will likely struggle to regain the momentum of its successful first season after such a long gap.
(Gentleman Jack suffered a similar fate earlier this year, and we expect World on Fire might be in trouble when it finally returns next year.)
Filming on Carnival Row was hugely disrupted by the first Covid-19 lockdown, shutting down production in the Czech Republic in March 2020.
In the end, Season 2’s shoot didn’t finish until October 2021, almost two years after it began!
Watch a brief teaser for Season 2 here:
The official synopis for Season 2 reads: “In a fantasy world where humans and creatures clash, Season Two of Carnival Row picks up with former inspector Rycroft Philostrate aka Philo (Orlando Bloom) investigating a series of gruesome murders stoking social tension.
“Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne) and the Black Raven plot payback for the unjust oppression inflicted by The Burgue’s human leaders, Jonah Breakspear (Arty Froushan) and Sophie Longerbane (Caroline Ford).
“Tourmaline Larou (Karla Crome) inherits supernatural powers that threaten her fate and the future of The Row. And, after escaping The Burgue and her vengeful brother Ezra (Andrew Gower), Imogen Spurnrose (Tamzin Merchant) and her partner Agreus Astrayon (David Gyasi) encounter a radical new society which upends their plans.
“With humans and fae folk divided and freedom on the line, each hero will face impossible dilemmas and soul-defining tests in the epic conclusion of Carnival Row.”
Carnival Row is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
