‘Cursed’ future confirmed: Will there be a Season 2?

The fate of Cursed has finally been revealed.

Netflix’s re-imagination of the Arthurian legend premiered a year ago.

Cursed starred 13 Reasons Why actress Katherine Langford as Nimue, the classic character who is destined to become the famous Lady of the Lake.

The fantasy drama’s ten-part first season debuted on 17th July 2020, receiving reasonably positive reviews.

Based on the hit Young Adult book by writer Tom Wheeler and illustrator Frank Miller, the show spent several weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 most-viewed list.

However, despite its success, Netflix had remained worryingly quiet over the past year when it came to renewing Cursed for more episodes.

Things weren’t looking positive when it was revealed earlier this year that props from the series were being sold on eBay, suggesting that they weren’t going to be needed again.

Sadly, we can now confirm that Netflix definitely isn’t going ahead with a second season of Cursed.

A source on Deadline announced yesterday: “There will be no second season for Cursed. Netflix quietly has canceled the fantasy series, which is based on a key character from the King Arthur legend, after one season, I have learned.”

They added: “The cast has been released to pursue other opportunities.”

Alongside Katherine Langford, the cast also included Devon Terrell as Arthur, Gustaf Skarsgård as Merlin, Sebastian Armesto as King Uther, Matt Stokoe as Gawain, Lily Newmark as Pym, and Daniel Sharman as the Weeping Monk.

Terrell appeared hopeful about the possibility of Season 2 last year, commenting: “It just feels like the beginning – we just scratched the surface of what the show could be, and how far it could go.”

All ten episodes of Cursed are still available to watch on Netflix.

The official synopsis read: “After her mother’s death, [Nimue] finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a humble mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword.

“Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.

Cursed is a coming-of-age story whose themes are familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious terror, senseless war, and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.”

The BBC’s complete Merlin series is available on DVD on Amazon.
