Diana Rigg’s contract for ‘Victoria’ includes a daily bottle of prosecco!

We’ve been absolutely loving Dame Diana Rigg in the new season of Victoria – and now we love her even more.

Victoria creator Daisy Goodwin recently revealed to Digital Spy that “at the end of every day in her contract [Diana] has a bottle of prosecco.”

The writer added: “She drinks just one glass and shares the rest with the make-up team.”

The British actress, best known for her roles in Game of Thrones and The Avengers, was added to the cast of ITV’s hit period drama in Season 2 as the Duchess of Bucchleuch, the young Queen’s new Mistress of the Robes.

Writer Daisy Goodwin also spoke of her joy upon finding out that Dame Diana would be joining the cast of Victoria.

She recalled: “We were so thrilled when she agreed to play the Duchess of Buccleugh. I was basically writing and there was really only one person.

“I’d met her before, about 30 years ago, and I just remembered her so vividly from that so to see her again is just fantastic. She brings a certain asperity to the scene and set.”

Aside from the prosecco, the iconic star only had one other demand – and it’s definitely fair enough!

Rigg herself explained: “I am beyond a corset so I don’t have to suffer that.”

She added: “I am not interested in having a wait – forget that. I only take half an hour in wardrobe and make up because I am long past improving my appearance, so try to have it all done as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

Starring Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) and Tom Hughes (The Game) as Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Victoria continues in the UK tomorrow night on ITV.

Season 2 will air in the US on Masterpiece on PBS from January 2018.
