‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ international release dates confirmed

It’s been announced when the new Downton Abbey movie will arrive in more countries!

Having had its release date pushed back several times, Downton Abbey: A New Era is set to finally arrive in cinemas this spring.

Based on ITV’s hit period drama series, the upcoming sequel follows the massive success of the first film back in 2019, which grossed over $237 million worldwide.

Set in 1928, the plot sees our beloved characters embark on a lavish trip to the South of France where they must uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa.

It’s already been revealed that Downton Abbey: A New Era will be released in UK cinemas on Friday 29th April.

The movie arrives in US theatres on Friday 20th May, and American viewers will be able to watch at home just 45 days later on NBC’s streaming service Peacock.

We’ve now got the full schedule of release dates for more destinations around the world!

According to iMDB, the second Downton movie will in fact premiere first in France (rather fittingly given story’s setting!) on Wednesday 27th April.

It’ll then open in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, and Singapore on Thursday 28th April.

The following day, on Friday 29th April, the film launches in Spain, the UK and Ireland, Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Taiwan.

Audiences in Finland can see Downton Abbey: A New Era from Wednesday 4th May, then it debuts in Poland on Friday 6th May.

Denmark gets the movie on Thursday 19th May, with a release the following day on Friday 20th May for Bulgaria, Canada, India, Sri Lanka, and the US.

Last up is Sweden on Friday 8th July.

A stunning trailer was unveiled in February, featuring all the returning Downton cast, alongside newcomers Hugh Dancy (Hannibal), Laura Haddock (Da Vinci’s Demons), and Dominic West (The Crown).

Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes had described A New Era as “a feel-good [movie].”

He told Alan Titchmarsh on ITV’s Love Your Weekend: “I don’t know about you, but I could use a bit of feel-good right now.”

While we wait for the movie’s release, you can listen to the brand new Downton podcast!

Featuring “exclusive interviews and unrivalled behind-the-scenes access” to the hit period drama’s cast and creative team, Downton Abbey: The Official Podcast launched last month.
