‘Downton Abbey’ star hints at a new romance for Tom in the movie – finally!
Tom Branson might find love again at last in the upcoming Downton Abbey movie.
A continuation of ITV’s hit period drama, the film is is set in the autumn of 1927 and finished filming in November.
A teaser trailer was revealed last month, along with a gallery of new promo pictures, and recently the cast have been talking to EW about what to expect.
37-year-old Irish actor Allen Leech, who got married last week, will be back in the movie as Tom Branson.
In the final episode of the TV series, Tom was last seen running an automobile business with Mary’s husband Henry Talbot, having returned to Downton following his brief relocation to America.
He still hadn’t had much luck in the romance department since the death of his wife, Lady Sybil, though.
However, Leech suggests that might finally change in the movie: “Given the fact that he is one of the only ones left who hasn’t found love, one would hope and assume there is an opportunity for him to have an iota of a chance at finding something.”
He also revealed that Tom will be very happy with the societal shifts that have occurred during the series’ time in history: “The world [is] changing in a way that Tom Branson had always hoped.
“As it picks up again, it’s definitely becoming a world that Tom Branson is much more suited to than a lot of the Crawley family.”
Leech’s co-star Michelle Dockery has given some hints about how Lady Mary has changed in the film.
The Downton Abbey movie will be released in cinemas this September.
