‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ reveals title, first story hints, and new release date
We’ve finally got some fresh details on the next Fantastic Beasts movie!
Exploring the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the planned five-film prequel franchise launched in 2016 with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Set in post-World War I Europe, the movie was followed in 2018 with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The original schedule had been for a third film to be released at the end of 2020.
However, Fantastic Beasts 3 was then delayed by a year so that more time could be spent on the script following the disappointing response to the second movie.
Then, of course, the pandemic hit just before filming was set to commence and the release was pushed back again to July 2022!
Well, we’ve got a surprising update on that front: the movie has now been brought forward by a few months.
It’ll now arrive in cinemas around the world on Friday 15th April 2022.
The third movie’s full title has also been unveiled: Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.
We’ve got a brand new official synopsis too, teasing the movie’s plot:
“Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world.
“Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers.
“But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?”
Jude Law will be back as the young Albus Dumbledore, joined by Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Ezra Miller as Credence (aka Aurelius Dumbledore), Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, and Jessica Williams as Eulalie ‘Lally’ Hicks.
Casino Royale star Mads Mikkelsen is taking over the role of Gellert Grindelwald.
There have been rumours this year about a possible Harry Potter television series for HBO Max, but nothing official has been announced yet.
A wonderful new DVD box set was released last week to celebrate 20 years of the Harry Potter movies.
The ten-disc collection includes Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, as well as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The complete 10-film Wizarding World box set is available on DVD on Amazon.
