Grantchester Season 9 US premiere – what you need to know
As the US premiere of the ninth season of the beloved mystery series arrives, let’s look at what we can expect from this season.
As announced last year, Season 9 will be Tom Brittney’s last in Grantchester after a successful six-year run. The identity of his successor has already been revealed – Hollyoaks star Rishi Nair will take over the reins in the vicarage and, of course, will end up joining forces with veteran detective Geordie Keating (Robson Green).
When will it air?
Season 9 consists of eight episodes, which will air on MASTERPIECE on PBS between June 16 and August 4, 2024.
What is it about?
Season 9 is set in 1961 during a tumultuous time in Grantchester. The Reverend Will Davenport has received an appealing offer that makes him consider if his future is in Grantchester. Meanwhile Geordie and Cathy Keating face the challenge of guiding and gradually letting go of daughter Esme as she begins to make her way in the world.
This season sees the arrival of a new vicar Alphy Kottaram. After a rocky introduction to the vicarage, Alphy slowly warms to the people of Grantchester, and overcomes his initial reluctance to work on cases with Geordie. The pair soon find themselves teaming up to tread the familiar territory of solving crimes and mysteries within their community.
Grantchester Season 9 finds police and vicar(s) investigating a range of cases, from clandestine circus performers to deceitful archaeologists, while also looking at social and spiritual challenges within the community during that period of change.
