‘Call the Midwife’ star returns to ‘The King and I’ with London 2024 dates

The King and I will be back in London’s West End next year starring Helen George!

Following its current sold out UK tour, the iconic Rogers and Hammerstein musical has just announced a strictly limited six-week season at the Dominion Theatre in London for the start of 2024.

The dates will see the Call The Midwife star reprise her lead role as Anna Leonowens.

Here’s a sneak peek at her gorgeous costume:

Best known as Trixie Franklin in the hit BBC One drama, Helen George is currently playing to sold out theatres across the UK on a on tour of The King and I until November.

“I am so delighted to continue to play the formidable Anna Leonowens in this incredible production of The King and I,” the 38-year-old English actress said.

“I have really enjoyed playing such an incredibly strong character whilst on tour, but to play her on the West End stage is an honour.”

“Our last London residency of this multi award-winning production at the London Palladium broke Box Office records, received critical acclaim and enjoyed standing ovations at every show – we were overwhelmed with the rapturous response,” commented producer Howard Panter.

“So we are thrilled to bring Helen George and Darren Lee who played The King in the Broadway production to the Dominion next year and offer West End audiences the chance to experience this wonderous production once more.

“This really is musical theatre at its very best.”

Set in 1860s Bangkok, The King and I tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.

When are the dates?

The King and I will open at London’s Dominion Theatre on Tottenham Court Road on Saturday 20th January 2024, running until Saturday 2nd March.

There will be evening performances on Tuesday to Saturday each week, and matinees on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Tickets are on sale now from the show’s official website.

It was recently confirmed that Call the Midwife will be returning for another three seasons!

The renewal means the BBC’s popular Sunday evening series will run until at least its fifteenth season in 2026.

Helen George and the rest of the cast will begin filming next year’s season this May.
