Kate Winslet joins cast of new ‘Black Beauty’ remake
The first cast members have been revealed for the upcoming remake of Black Beauty.
American screenwriter and director Ashley Avis will update the classic story in the new movie.
Anna Sewell’s 1877 novel has sold over 50 million copies and is one of the best-selling books of all time.
Set in Victorian London, the original story is told from the point of view of the titular horse, starting with his carefree days as a colt on an English farm with his mother and later exploring his difficult life pulling cabs in London.
Black Beauty has been adapted for film nine times before, most recently in 1994.
It’s been announced this week that Avis’s new movie adaptation will star Mackenzie Foy as “a teenage girl who develops a strong bond with a wild horse named Beauty who helps her heal from the trauma of losing her parents.”
Foy’s biggest role to date was starring in last year’s sumptuous Disney movie The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
Kate Winslet (Titanic) will provide the voice of the horse.
Black Beauty will be released in cinemas in 2020.
Anna Sewell’s novel is available on Amazon.
