‘Maid Marian and Her Merry Men’ could be getting a reboot on Netflix

Tony Robinson has revealed that Maid Marian and Her Merry Men might be returning to our screens.

The BBC’s historical comedy series for children ran for four seasons between 1989 and 1994, retelling the legend of Robin Hood.

The series was written and created by Blackadder star Tony Robinson, who also played the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Maid Marian and her Merry Men was a huge hit and won several awards, including the 1990 BAFTA for Best Children’s Programme (Entertainment/Drama) and an award from the Royal Television Society.

In exciting news, writer and star Tony Robinson has apparently been in talks with Netflix to reboot the classic sitcom for a new audience.

Speaking to the Celebrity Catch Up podcast, he said: “We were talking about the possibility of doing a West End musical of Maid Marian last year and the year before, but in a way COVID knocked it on the head and it wasn’t going in the right direction anyway.

“But I’m now talking to Netflix about the possibility of some kind of revamp of Maid Marian in the future, which would be very exciting.”

If the revival goes ahead, however, it’ll feature a brand new cast.

Robinson explained: “I’d kind of like to start again. I would like to discover that voice of the television Marian from scratch. I’ve got some ideas which I’ll keep absolutely under wraps.”

He teased: “As soon as I told you some of the people we had in mind for the cast, you’d get where I was going – but I’m not going to!”

There was also talk about a possible Blackadder revival series back in 2019, but there’s been no news on the project since then.

Maid Marian and Her Merry Men is available on DVD on Amazon.
